FAQs
Why is this march happening and how can I be involved?
1
This march is about raising awareness of the ongoing veterans and their families face - and the support systems that need to stay in place. At the centre of that is The Sallyman.
What is the Enduring Spirit of the Anzac March?
2
The Enduring Spirit of the ANZAC March is a 300km journey from Holsworthy to Canberra, taking place from April 15th -24th. An unknown veteran will walk the full distance in full WW1 kit and pack, representing every Veteran and what many carry long after service ends.
What is the Sallyman?
3
The Sallyman is part of The Salvation Army and provides support to veterans and their families - often in difficult, behind the scenes moments. For many, it’s a steady presence when things get tough.
Why does the Sallyman matter?
4
It comes from The Salvation Army which was founded in 1865. Their support to military personnel goes back over a century and we are about to lose that tradition. They supported troops in World War 1 and continued to World War 11 and beyond. So when people talk about “the Sallyman” in a defence context they’re talking about a tradition of support that can’t be lost to lack of funding.
